Philippine Beach Vacation Packing List: What to Bring
Share
Grabe, planning a beach day here in the Philippines is super exciting — but only if you know what to bring beach! Now that you’ve landed at your destination, it’s time to get ready for a day under the sun.
This complete beach vacation packing list covers everything you need so you can focus on enjoying white sand beaches in Cebu, Palawan, Boracay, Siargao, Bohol, Siquijor, and beyond. No international fuss — just pure local fun!
At the end of this guide, you’ll also have access to a FREE BEACH VACATION CHECKLIST so you can print it and not forget anything before heading to the beach!
Getting Ready for Your Beach Day
Before you step out the door, it’s important to plan your day. A solid beach vacation packing list keeps your mind at ease. Whether you’re heading to a public shower near a resort or going island hopping with friends, preparation is key.
Check the Weather and Local Conditions
Start by checking the forecast. Knowing if it’s a sunny day or if rain is expected helps you adjust your plan. Local tips include:
✔ Temperature: It can get super hot — pack extra sunblock and a hat.
✔ Rainy Season Alerts: Watch for sudden rain or lumot season (algae blooms) that may affect beach conditions.
✔ Wind and Humidity: Keep a portable fan and power bank handy for those brown-out moments.
Tip: If you’re planning to enjoy Philippine beaches, we suggest that you go during the dry season. That’s from December to May. Rain and typhoons are still possible, but the chances are relatively low.
Months |
Weather |
Description |
December to February |
Cool Dry Season |
Good weather, not too hot, water levels might be higher, occasional rains |
March to May |
Hot Dry Season |
Hottest months in the PH, clear and sunny, best time to visit beaches |
June to November |
Rainy Season |
Bad weather, typhoon season, worst time to visit Philippine beaches |
P.S. If you’re going to Boracay, do not go during the ‘lumot’ season. That’s usually from February to May.
During this time, the sand and water might be covered with patches of green algae, especially during low tide. The exact timing depends on the sea conditions. We suggest that you visit Boracay from November to January instead.
Essential Items for a Philippine Beach Day
This is your practical guide on what to bring beach. Use this checklist to ensure nothing is forgotten!
Beach Vacation Packing List Must-Haves
A good beach vacation packing list is your secret weapon for a stress-free day. Make sure to have all of these non-negotiables ready before hitting the beach:
▢ Swimwear: Choose your favorite swimsuit, bikini, or board shorts.
▢ Cover-Up: A lightweight cover-up is perfect for a quick change.
▢ Flip Flops/Water Shoes: Ideal for walking on the sand or rocky shores.
▢ Sunglasses & Hat: Protect your eyes and face from the harsh sun.
▢ Waterproof Phone Case: Bring your phone with you anywhere, without making it wet.
▢ Sunblock (SPF 50+): Reapply every two hours for maximum protection.
▢ Mosquito Repellent: Keep those pesky bugs away.
▢ Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated without buying plastic bottles.
▢ Tissue and Wet Wipes: Not all public bathrooms have this.
▢ Cash and Coins: For tricycle rides, pay toilets, and sari-sari store finds.
▢ GCash App: Essential for quick local transactions when ATMs are scarce.
▢ IslaDry Microfiber Travel Towel: This lightweight, quick-drying towel is a must-have. Perfect for drying off after a swim or using in public showers. Its compact design means it won’t take up too much space, and it’s durable enough to handle the tropical heat!
▢ Waterproof Dry Bag / Ocean Pack: Put all your things here.

Tip: If you’re going island hopping, get ready to get wet from time to time! When the boats dock, you still have to pass through the waters before you reach the sand. So make sure to have a portable towel with you to keep you dry.

Clothing and Accessories for a Relaxed Beach Day
When the sun is blazing, you need clothes that are comfy and quick-drying. Here’s what to pack, especially when you’re staying overnight.
Light and Airy Attire
▢ Lightweight tops, airy dresses, or shorts.
▢ Avoid heavy cotton that takes forever to dry.
▢ A light jacket or cover-up if the breeze picks up in the evening.
▢ Board shorts for men or a one-piece/two-piece swimwear set for women.
▢ Rashguard for water sports such as freediving or snorkeling.
Note: Some hotels and resorts have pools, and they don’t usually allow cotton clothing inside the pool. Make sure that your swimwear is made from polyester or nylon so you can also use the pool.
Footwear and Accessories
▢ Water shoes for rocky beaches or diving spots.
▢ Flip flops for easy walking on the sand.
▢ A stylish beach hat and a pair of sunglasses keep you cool and protected.
▢ A plastic bag for your wet clothes.
Travel tip: Follow the 5-4-3-2-1 rule when packing for a beach trip. Bring 5 pairs of underwear, 4 pairs of shirts/tops, 3 pairs of bottoms (pants and shorts), 2 pairs of footwear (slippers/aqua shoes and sandals/rubber shoes), and 1 pair of swimwear.
That’s just the basic rule of thumb. But you can adjust accordingly, of course – especially when you’re a fashionista and you want to have a different swimsuit for each day!
Toiletries and Skincare
Hygiene is very important when traveling. Make sure to have these inside your bag:
▢ Shampoo and soap
▢ Face Wash
▢ Moisturizer
▢ Sunscreen
▢ Toothbrush and toothpaste
▢ Deodorant
▢ Lip Balm
▢ Sanitary napkins for women
Tip: If you’re flying to the island, make sure that your toiletry containers do not exceed 100ml if you only have 7kg hand-carry luggage. Airports may confiscate these, so put them in travel-sized containers.
Then, store everything in a waterproof travel pouch for easy access. If you don’t have any waterproof pouches, a ziplock would do.
Gadgets and Other Travel Essentials
Even if you’re just heading to a nearby beach, it’s smart to have some tech and extras on hand. Iphones, specifically, tend to drain much faster than other phone brands. To have a stress-free beach experience, make sure to bring the following beach tech essentials:
▢ Smartphone and charger (You can leave the charger in your accommodation)
▢ Power bank (Vital during brown-outs!)
▢ Laptop and charger when working from the beach as a digital nomad.
▢ Waterproof phone case to protect your devices from splashes.
▢ Camera or GoPro for those epic beach selfies.
▢ A small drone, if you’re into aerial shots of the blue ocean.
▢ Travel adapter for charging devices in resorts or beach cottages.
Tip: The Philippines uses three types of electrical plugs: type A, type B, and type C. The standard voltage is 220 volts at 60 hertz. If you're traveling to the Philippines, you can use a universal power plug adapter that works with multiple plug types.

Food, Drink, and Other Essentials
Nothing ruins a beach day like getting too hungry or parched. Stock up on these:
▢ Reusable water bottle, refill it as needed.
▢ Pack light, non-perishable snacks to keep you energized.
▢ Candies just in case you get too hungry or too dizzy
▢ Reusable bag: Perfect for storing extra snacks or picking up souvenirs.
Tip: For famous developed beaches like Boracay or Puerto Princesa, there are restaurants along the island or shore. No need to worry about bringing your own food. Buko juice is everywhere, too!
Also make sure to bring an EMPTY bottle of water when you're flying. They will confiscate it during baggage inspection.
Gear for Water and Outdoor Activities
Your beach vacation packing list should also cover gear for fun water activities and outdoor adventures:
If Traveling with Kids
▢ A kiddie life vest, floaties, or salbabida
▢ Kickboard for extra support in the water
▢ Pool noodle
▢ Shovel and pail for sand castles
For Snorkelling and Diving
▢ Snorkelling mask and fins.
▢ Swim goggles.
▢ Rashguard for protection from the sun and abrasions.
▢ Waterproof phone case (yes, again — it’s indispensable!)
▢ Aqua shoes or water shoes
Tip: Snorkelling gear is usually available for rent on beaches, but it’s also good to have one.
Camping Essentials for the Beach
For those planning to camp by the shore, here’s what you need in addition to water and outdoor gear:
▢ Tent: Choose one that’s UV-resistant and waterproof.
▢ Sleeping Bag: Pick one suited for tropical temperatures.
▢ Camping Mat or Air Mattress: For a comfortable sleep on the sand.
▢ Portable Camping Stove or Grill: If you plan on cooking your meals.
▢ Cooking Utensils: A small pot, pan, and spatula for campfire cooking.
▢ Lamp/Flashlight: Bring extra batteries for nighttime.
▢ Camping Chairs or Portable Seating: For relaxing by the fire.
▢ Tarp or Groundsheet: Protects your camping area from sand and moisture.
▢ Cooler or Ice Box: To keep your drinks and perishables cool.
▢ Gallons of Water: Essential for cooking and cleaning.
P.S. You can buy water in convenience stores like 7/11. We suggest that you buy water already when you see 7/11, Alfamart, Uncle John’s, or any other convenience store because there might be no more convenience stores nearby.
It’s also usually more expensive to buy these in sari-sari stores because it may already not be in SRP (standard retail pricing).
These camping essentials complement your beach vacation packing list so you can enjoy a full day — and night — of fun under the stars.
Tip: Tents and camping gear are usually available for rent in beach camping sites for a fee. Just do your research beforehand. Some beaches are isolated and may not have these available.
If you’re staying overnight in a secluded beach, we suggest that you go to the market first before heading to the beach. Buy all the food (fish, meat, vegetables, rice, drinking water, etc.) you need because food might not be available.
Medication and First Aid Kit
When you’re far from the city, we suggest that you pack your medication and first aid kit with you. Anything can happen, and it’s best to be prepared in these kinds of emergencies. Here are the things that you should have in your bag:
▢ Pain reliever (e.g., ibuprofen or acetaminophen)
▢ Anti-inflammatory medication and antihistamine
▢ Bandages/Adhesive bandages
▢ Antiseptic wipes
▢ Antibiotic ointment
▢ Insect bite cream
▢ Allergy medication
▢ Anti-diarrhea medication
▢ Electrolyte powder/sachets
▢ Gauze and adhesive tape
▢ Scissors and tweezers
▢ Hand sanitizer
▢ Personal prescription medications
▢ First aid manual

A well-prepared beach vacation packing list also means being savvy with local travel tips. Here are things that you need to know before going to the beach:
✓ Coins Are King: Always have small change for tricycles, pay toilets, and pay showers.
✓ Digital Payments: Prepare your GCash app for quick and hassle-free transactions.
✓ Public Showers and Bathrooms: Pack extra tissues and wet wipes. Have 5 and 10 peso coins with you too, because they’re not usually free.
✓ Stay Connected: Bring a portable fan and power bank since brown-outs can happen, especially in the province.
✓ Keep It Clean: Practice CLAYGO (Clean as you go). Bring a reusable bag to dispose of trash and keep the beach clean—clean as you go!
Where to Stay on the Beach
Planning your beach day also means choosing the perfect spot to relax. Depending on your mood and schedule, you have options for both day tours and overnight stays.
For Day Tours
— Cabana: Rent a cabana for a few hours to enjoy private space right on the sand. It’s perfect for lounging, chilling with friends, and soaking up the sun.
— Cottage: A small beach cottage/nipa hut offers a cozy retreat during the day. Enjoy local snacks and a cool breeze as you relax away from the crowd.

For Overnight Stays
— Hotel: Ideal for those who prefer convenience and amenities like air-conditioning and room service.
— Resort: Enjoy a more luxurious experience with additional facilities such as pools, spas, and restaurants, making your beach trip even more relaxing.
— Hostel/Dorm: Budget-friendly options where you can meet fellow travelers and share stories. Rooms are usually shared with other people (bunk beds).
— Inn/Transient: Simple and homey, these options offer a taste of local hospitality. This is usually your accommodation if you booked an overnight joiners tour.
— Airbnb: Choose a local rental for a more personalized stay.
— Campsite/Homestay: Experience the outdoors by camping near the beach or staying with a local family to truly embrace Filipino hospitality.

Travel tip: There are no hotels or resorts in other beach areas, so don’t expect 4 or 5-star accommodations when staying at or near a beach overnight. Airbnbs and budget hotels are your best bets in these areas.
